Autumn updateWhat's in store for the rest of 2025?We've listed a few of the productions that we hear are starting up, as we move into autumn |
The year so far As we look back on a reasonably busy summer of 2025, various jobs are now coming to an end and we’re all looking around for what’s next. The Filmbase Job Alerts are still coming in regularly (check the latest ones here) and we hope that will continue throughout the next few months as HoDs crew for the autumn wave of productions starting. Generally, it’s been clear this year that the studios are still being far more cautious than they would have been pre-strikes. Budgets are lower, departments are smaller and schedules tighter. We’ve seen quite a few big productions shut down this year and go on hiatus because of this cautiousness. That translates into fewer jobs than during the boom, particularly for juniors and those starting out, because HODs can fill their departments with experienced crew. Are more jobs going to the US? In June, California doubled its tax incentive, to lure productions back to Hollywood. That may have less impact than LA-based crew hope, as really it only makes California competitive with other US states, although there is no doubt that more productions have started up there in the last month. But the incentives to shoot in the UK are as strong as ever - and that includes the high quality of crew here! So while the industry as a whole is still recalibrating after the strikes, and we’re all feeling the squeeze on productions, there is still a reasonable amount of jobs slated for the UK in the next few months. What’s starting up soon - the word in the studios! The Beatles films - based at Bovingdon Studios, they have been put on hiatus more than once, but are currently back in action; we’ve put out a number of Job Alerts and hope to send out more; Sonic the Hedgehog 4 - in early prep for Paramount, with HODs crewing up over the next month; Elden Ring - Alex Garland is writing and directing, with HODs starting to crew up; we’re hoping to be able to put out Job Alerts for this over the next few months; The Batman: Part II - reports say it will be starting to shoot in the spring of next year, and they should be crewing up at Leavesden this autumn. There’s also a second Batman film lined up for the new DCU, about Batman and his son; Killing Satoshi - directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity), reported to be starting in October in London; How to Train Your Dragon 2 - this is underway at Elstree; One Punch Man - Sony is adapting the anime and manga series with Justin Lin directing; the rumourmill says it’s UK-bound; Assasin’s Creed - a TV series that was confirmed by Netflix this summer, although there’s still no news as to whether it will be UK or else where; A Minecraft Movie 2 - In the pipeline for a potential 2028 release with Warner Bros, and we’ve heard it could be based in the UK this time; Gundam - the live-action version of the original animation started up earlier in the year but was paused for script issues; we believe it’s back in the next few months, although there’s a question mark over it staying in the UK; God of War - The Rock is said to be starring in this long-rumoured film adaptation of the Sony gaming franchise; this is one of many productions filling space in the gossip columns but there is no studio or crew information right now; Mass Effect - another video game adaptation, with Oscar-winner Nathan Crowley as Designer; Wonka 2 - the script apparently is being finalised, with shooting starting in the New Year, so crewing up should be imminent, in the UK; Un-named Ridley Scott project - no further details on this yet; Warhammer 40k - long in development, this is said to be a Warner Bros project, probably coming to us next year at the earliest; Ocean’s 14 and also a prequel to the first film, Ocean’s 11 - both are reportedly in development for Warners and thought to be going into Leavesden. Clayface is underway in Liverpool for Warner Bros, probably crewed up but worth keeping an eye out for. Eloise at the Plaza - a remake of the previous film of the children book series.
