Learn all about 20th century printing presses, and design and print your own notecards in a 4 hour workshop at Cottage Press, owned by Mark Jordan from Compuhire, Cottage Press has a unique collection of museum registered printing presses and Mark is opening the doors to 3 Filmbase members and 3 Graphics Union members for a 4 hour workshop.

The session will include a tour of the presses and other machines in the collection. You will then be able to explore the huge selection of letterpress type collections and use them to design your own postcard sized print. You can choose from 100s of typesets to compose a design for a thank you card, or a headed notecard with your name and address. You will then print them on one of the presses!

Workshop outline:

• Introduction to the various items of equipment with demonstrations
• Hand setting some type for a notecard (A6) size print.
• Printing approx. 100 notecards
• Take home your printed cards, and a new found knowledge of letterpress printing!

• 2 x Monotype Composition Casters (For Composition sizes faces 4pt – 14pt)
• 1 x Monotype Super Caster (For Display faces 18pt - 72pt)
• Elrod Strip and Rule Caster
• Polar EM76 Guillotine

All materials will be provided. Paper stock has kindly been provided by GF Smith. 

There are limited places available, but please put yourself on the waiting list if you miss out this time as we’ll be planning more sessions in the future with Mark.
